If you’re looking for the perfect way to spend the holidays, let me suggest you pick up THE COMPLETE THIN MAN COLLECTION on Blu-ray, newly released from the Warner Archive Collection. If you're like me and have only seen the original THE THIN MAN (1934) then you'll be happy to learn that for the first time you can pick up all the films in on set.
For those unfamiliar, the series is set in the world of 1930s and 40s Manhattan high society, where husband-and-wife detective duo Nick and Nora somehow manage to make solving murders look like the most charming and entertaining endeavor in the world. Clever dialogue, sparkling humor, and their undeniable chemistry completely won me over.
The collection features AFTER THE THIN MAN, ANOTHE THIN MAN, SHADOW OF THE THIN MAN, THE THIN MAN GOES HOME, and SONG OF THE THIN MAN. All have been restored from 4K scans of the best surviving materials.
The set also comes with some really fun extras, like vintage short subjects and animated cartoons that recreate the theater experience from when these films were originally released. That kind of attention to detail feels like a thoughtful touch—it’s not just about watching the movies, but about being transported back to the golden age of Hollywood.
I’m planning to settle in over the holidays, and binge my way through the entirety of the series. From what I’ve heard, the sequels keep the charm alive while adding new twists and settings, which sounds like the perfect kind of escapism for this time of year.
